HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

I assess each manuscript holistically and my aim is always to work with you in the way

that suits you best.  I allow, on average, three weeks per manuscript.

TELEPHONE CALL

If you’re not yet ready to submit work but would like to talk to me to discuss any aspects of the writing process, ask for advice, or plan a way forward, use the contact me page to get in touch to arrange a time.  This is an aspect of my job that I really enjoy, and I’m always amazed at how much a conversation can yield.

THREE CHAPTERS & REPORT

The first three chapters are absolutely crucial when submitting your work to an agent.

You send me:

  • The first three chapters of your book.
  • A covering letter, as if you were submitting the chapters to an agent.
  • Synopsis.

I will provide:

  • A written report, offering feedback and advice on the work and on the covering letter and synopsis.
  • Your returned chapters, marked up with my comments and suggestions.

MEETING & REPORT, WITHOUT MARKED UP MANUSCRIPT

You send me:

  • The whole manuscript of your book, up to 450 pages.  (There will be an additional charge of £10 for each 25 pages thereafter.)
  • A covering letter, as if you were submitting the chapters to an agent.
  • Synopsis.

I will provide:

  • A written report, offering feedback and advice on the manuscript and on the covering letter and synopsis.
  • A face-to-face meeting of up to four hours to give additional feedback and support. This is my favourite part of the collaboration, I love the brainstorming and the ideas that start to flow!  And it’s the best way to really get to understand any issues or blocks and how to overcome them.  We could meet in central Brighton, very close to the station or of course have a Zoom or Skype call.
  • Up to three hours of additional feedback and support via telephone or email.

Being able to work from a manuscript annotated with my comments (including all the good ones!) and suggestions really is the best possible way to get the most out of the process.  I will also highlight any issues with spelling or grammar.

You send me:
